The Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) is a pre-university examination taken by students in Malaysia. It was the precursor to the GCE A levels in the UK, as well as the pre-university examination in some states in Australia known as HSC. The STPM pre-university programmed is the sixth form of secondary education which is also referred as “Form 6″.
Form 6 lasts one and a half years. Form 6 is separated into two levels, the first half year is Lower Sixth Form (Tingkatan Enam Rendah/Bawah) and Upper Sixth Form (Tingkatan Enam Atas) is the other whole year. A major difference in Form 6 compared to other pre-university courses is that the medium of instruction is in Bahasa Melayu the national language of Malaysia. Hence it is not popular among international students and its popularity is also waning among local Malaysians students as more parents are sending their children to A-levels, foundation or diploma programs. Another major disadvantage is that it only has one intake in the year. Many students do not want to wait a few months for the STPM to start and opt for other alternative instead.
